Welcome to the 24/25 School Year

Each day, we greet our students with the promise of a fresh start, and today, I extend that same warmth and
optimism to our district staff and our families. I write to you filled with hope and excitement as we launch
the 2025 academic school year, a time brimming with new beginnings. Thanks to the incredible hard work,
collaboration, and dedication within Georgetown Public Schools, we are poised for an extraordinary year
ahead.

Our collective “New Beginnings” will be felt by our students, families and staff. A couple modernization
initiatives are worth highlighting. The launch of our new student information system, Aspen, is a
foundational change that will make our work more efficient, streamline communication, and house data in a
way that will help us understand our students at a deeper level. The adoption and implementation of new
High Quality Curriculum Materials will be felt in multiple grade levels and content areas. These tools will be
supported by deep professional development and coaching for our teachers to ensure they build their skills
and feel confident in the classrooms. The district and school level administration believe that when we
support our educators, and partner with families our students will thrive.

Although many aspects of the 2025 school year will feel new, our focus and directionality is not changing.
Our 2025 district’s strategic initiatives build on the two we adopted last year (standards based, grade level
curriculum with rigorous, measurable tasks and a strong sense of belonging) but go broader and deeper. Our
updated instructional vision states that Georgetown Public Schools believes in The Power of the Educator
and is setting systems, structures, and expectations for adult learning and collaboration so that students have
access to grade level content and tasks. This powerful work will begin on August 26, 2025 with our first day
of professional learning.

Throughout the summer I have met with many Georgetown families who are excited but nervous about the
future of GPS. I listen and reassure them that we are moving in the right direction, have the right people in
the right positions and are beginning to have the appropriate resources. I remind them of our collective
“Why” we are here; which is to help our students grow into wonderful, self reliant, and prepared adults. This
is what I believe. As educators sometimes we can get lost in the noise and become distracted from our
purpose. In my welcome back letter to the staff I challenged them to stay focused on our “Why” and make
the 2025 School year the best for themselves, our students and our families.

I want to welcome you and your children back and close with the very wise words from our Class of 2024
Salutatorian, Jake Gilstein. “This school is a special place for many students and while it was a trying year
for teachers and administrators alike, I encourage all of you to assume positive intent and know that
everyone is trying to get this school to a better place.”

Respectfully,
Margo
