A note from the School Committee Bargaining Team
As part of our commitment in keeping the community updated, we are sharing important information about what to expect during the upcoming negotiations process with the Georgetown Education Association (GEA)
Earlier this week, the Georgetown School Committee (GSC) filed paperwork with the Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations asking for mediation assistance to help bring both parties to a resolution. We are hoping to agree upon a competitive wage that is in line with town finances, and that most importantly supports the recruitment and retention of teachers in Georgetown Public Schools.
The step of requesting mediation assistance is typically taken when one or both sides believe that an impasse has been reached. The GSC is proceeding with this step due to the financial gap in proposals and the town’s financial reality. After numerous bargaining sessions over the last several months there has been no movement to close this financial gap, resulting in an already lengthy impasse. We feel that it is important to take this next step in a timely manner so that we can get an agreement in-place without further delay.
We are hopeful that the GEA will work with the GSC to bring about a shared, mutually beneficial outcome. If you would like more information on the progress we have made please see the Collective Bargaining page on the district website.
