Spotlight on Excellence

Monica McGinnis, 6th grade Science, prepared her students to engage in a Science Seminar. This is an example of the students doing the heavy lifting with the learning. Thank you, Monica, for constantly pushing yourself to try new teaching methodologies and trusting our students to rise to very high expectations!
The 2025 Freshman-Sophomore Spring Frolic was a huge success Friday night! The theme was “A Trip to Paris” and students participated in the Grand March and then danced all night to music from DJ Chris DiFranco. Class advisor Mrs. D’Angelo and the freshman and sophomore class officers did a wonderful job planning the event and decorating. Dylan De Mars and Summer Young were elected Prince and Princess and Jomar Terrero and Kathryn Greenblatt were elected King and Queen. Thank you to Mrs. Sanderson, Mrs. Morrison, Mr. Prescott, and Mrs. Matthews for helping out and to all the families who donated food and drinks! Click here to see a quick video.

Our Drama Group, under Kerry Lee and Mr. Cloak’s direction, wrote and performed a 34-minute piece called 4 Trees for the annual Drama Fest Competition. Our club made it to the semifinals at Andover High School this past weekend. Many of our students received awards for excellence. I was lucky enough to experience the performance during a dress rehearsal. It was wonderful with a very cohesive cast and amazing writing and acting! The stage, sound and light crew worked hard as the lighting and sound were huge factors in the success of the production. Here are some moments I was able to capture!

The Perley PreK had their first ever dance on Friday, March 14, 2025. The theme was Over the Rainbow and St. Patrick’s Day. It happened resulting from monumental support from the PTA and the dozen Middle School student volunteers. In attendance were over 40 families. It was a great success!

Drum Roll Please…
Yes! The Georgetown High School Boys Basketball Team are MIAA STATE CHAMPIONS! Coach Keilty and his coaching staff led the team through an extraordinarily successful season, championship tournament and ultimately to clinch the final game on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Tsongas Arena. They did not do this alone. The cheerleaders came out in force! Coach Tracy Wood led the squad with loud and frenetic energy! The outpouring of support from our students, families, and community members was unbelievably robust. The stands were spilling over with a wave of blue. This is what Georgetown is all about. I am so happy to be part of the community. Thank you all!

Shout Outs:
- Linda Husak, 7th Grade Math Teacher, always goes above and beyond for her students. I often see her taking time out of her day, whether before or after school and even lunchtime to tutor any student who needs extra help. She is intuitive of their needs and is incredibly patient, supportive and kind. The students really appreciate it! I’m proud to call her my colleague.
Budget: The Finance Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. They voted to recommend the consolidated department budget(s) at town meeting. The budget that will be recommended if the voters do not approve a $6 million override is a level funded budget which still carries a deficit of close to $500,000. The Finance Committee is recommending to Town Meeting that the town’s “free cash” reserves are used to cover the remaining deficit rather than ask departments to make further cuts. The second budget that is being recommended outlines the departments’ needs dependent on the passage of the override. This budget also includes approximately $1 million which will be allocated to stabilization funds to guard against future override asks for the next 3 to 5 years. Both budgets will be discussed and voted on at the Annual Town Meeting, and the results of the override ballot question at the town election will determine which budget is in effect beginning July 1.
Kindergarten Registration is STILL underway and we are hoping to complete the process by March 25, 2025. We moved the Kindergarten screening process from the fall to the spring so it is important to know who our Kindergarteners will be! Families can reach out to either Perley or Penn Brook to get a registration packet. Please help spread the word.
