- Thank you Laura Valli (MS ELA Teacher) for sharing the following: “This is a shout out to all of the teachers at Penn Brook and GMHS who worked so hard to implement Wit & Wisdom successfully last year. At the middle school, the English teachers noticed that the students knew the routines of the curriculum and were ready to dive right into Module 1. We are so excited that year two is off to a great start!”
- Christy Marchionda, community member, is very grateful for the district’s Physical Therapist, Jenna Loftus: “Jenna is the real MVP on the Penn Brook Fun Run! She worked incredibly hard leading up to the event making sure our son was able to participate to the best of his ability. During the event Jenna hustled! Our son had a great time! During the later grades Jenna held hands with several students offering encouragement and support. Pretty sure she clocked more laps than most students! Thank you Jenna for your hard work and inclusion efforts. We appreciate you!”
- Ted Schruender, MS Social Studies teacher, is shouting out Ben Painchaud: “Ben has done an outstanding job of working well with multiple 6th and 7th grade students. He is also doing a lot of creative and meaningful initiatives with the middle school student council group.”
UPDATES:
The energy, worry, excitement and curiosity levels in our community are extremely high concerning the conversation on the Future of GHS. I understand it is challenging to accept the slow process of gathering information to responsibly inform you of potential future plans IF, over time, our efforts to maintain the number of students needed to offer a robust high school experience slips. I want to reiterate that the entire staff of Georgetown Public Schools is dedicated, driven and working toward strengthening and creating excellent learning experiences for all students in PreK through grade 12. The situation the district finds itself in is extraordinarily complex. The plan to gather data from the community and explore potential partners is needed in order to be responsible for the future. This planning does not detract or take resources away from the work of modernizing the district and developing GHS into an innovative destination for students in Georgetown and beyond.
We held our third Community Listening session on Wednesday October 15, 2025. It was our most attended to date, with over 80 community members sharing their perspectives. There were four School Committee members and one Select Board Member in attendance. Due to the overwhelming response to the evening time slot, and attendees not being able to ask their questions or share their thoughts, I have added an additional evening session. Following are the dates and times for the remaining sessions:
October 20, 2025 from 5:00pm-6:00pm at the GHS Auditorium
October 23, 2025 from 11:00am-12:00pm at the Perley School, 3rd Floor
November 13, 2025 from 5:15 – 6:15 in the High School Auditorium – this session is designed to share the data gathered from the survey and listening sessions. We will also talk about the process of how we are moving forward to redesign the high school, including what has already started and where we are going. Additionally, we will share the regulations regarding regionalization and how to enter into a tuition agreement. Though decisions will not be made by this date, we wish to inform the community on the potential future processes and the next steps.
A piece of feedback I heard loud and clear is that I need to do better with communicating, marketing and celebrating all the amazing things that happen everyday in GPS. We are working to improve our social media presence, engage our teachers and students in posts and share more information on who we are and where we are going. The District’s Facebook page should come alive. We are also activating a new Instagram account. Stay tuned!
