FAQ – The Future of GHS – November 13, 2025 Follow-up Questions

This document is the School Department’s response to community questions that were raised during the November 13, 2025 community forum. There was overlap in questions – we are focusing this document on themes.

  1. Are you able to share the data including only the 81% of respondents that have children in school?  Here is a link to the presentation that has much of the data you might be looking for.
  1. For the Tuition agreement, will this be voted on this year? Would High School students be able to go to MASCO next year?  We do not have a long term time line on when decisions will be made as we want to have comprehensive information on all the options before recommendations are made.  The Regionalization study takes a minimum of 6 months and will begin in either late December of early January. Simultaneously, we will work with potential school districts to develop tuition agreements.  Given the time line to gather information, we are planning and budgeting for a continuation of grades 9-12 at Georgetown High School for the 2026/2027 school year.
  1. Is there the possibility for additional data to be gathered through a study? Over the next several months we will conduct a deep feasibility study to explore the fiscal, facility, educational, enrollment and staffing structures to help answer many questions.  We will share the information gathered from this study as well as from tuition agreements in late spring or early summer after the process is complete.
  1. How long will the redesign process be given to reach its full potential?  The district is fully engaged in the GHS redesign today with new student opportunities and staffing underway.  We will see the potential grow each year.
  1. Could you provide a side by side course offering list for 9-12 comparing Masconomet to Georgetown?  This information can be gathered during the next few months and will be shared when we inform the community of all the information for each option.
  1. When would the school department make a decision to either move forward with a tuition agreement or regionalization? What specific data would drive that decision?  No decision will be made before all the information is gathered (mid summer 2026).    There is no one specific data point, but a cohesive and deep understanding of the enrollment trajectory and benefits analysis of entering into an agreement.  The decision to enter a tuition agreement is within the authority of the School Committee whereas the decision to enter into a regionalization agreement is a town meeting vote after approval of the Select Board.
  1. Can you share any enrollment data regarding the departure of students?  From last year to this year we are down approximately 118 students district wide.  The largest grade level decline was students going into 9th grade with a loss of 53 students.  The second greatest decline was in students going into 7th grade with a loss of 17.  Our Kindergarten enrollment was down by 15.  Here are the types of schools Georgetown students are attending:
FY26 Student Enrollment Data
Private Schools 123 GPS students
Charter Schools 3 GPS students
Vocational Schools88 GPS students
School Choice to other Public Schools 75 GPS students
Total 289
  1. Is GPS exploring any other options at this time or are the options shared the only ones available?   At the time of the presentation, Amesbury and MASCO were the most viable options, however, other potential partners could be pursued.  If we want to keep our students together there are not many districts that could fit our students or are open to a partnership at this time.
