UPDATES

We have turned the page from September and are welcoming October.   I love the fall, probably because I love wearing jeans and sweaters, being outside with the hot sun but cool air and experiencing the overall energy that comes with the season.  In our schools it is a time for our staff and students to be settled in their new routines, forming strong supportive relationships and being immersed in the teaching and learning.  It is also a time of assessing and analyzing the most recent accountability data from the state.  In addition to you receiving your child’s MCAS report, along with our school leaders, I will be sharing district trends, areas of growth and acknowledging the places we need to continue to focus on. – I am sharing this picture of my 2024 birthday orchid.  When my staff generously gave it to me it was in full bloom and over the following weeks the blooms faded and fluttered to the table.  This week it bloomed again, nearly 16 months since I received it.  I am pointing this out because it symbolizes perseverance, patience and beauty.  This orchid took its time to rest, nurture itself and then bloom into this beautiful flower.  The modernization and transformation of the learning environments are much like this orchid – given the right resources, time and patience they too will mature into the place where each and every student thrives.

  • Community Conversation:
    • The school district has approximately 750 families that have children in the schools.  We have 425 completed surveys to date.  It would be great if we could get everyone to fill it out!  Feel free to share the link with others in the GPS community. Additionally, it was suggested to actively seek input from the greater Georgetown Community as well so we are working with the town to use their communication avenues to share the survey link.  We will keep the survey open until October 25, 2025.
    • We held our second Community Listening session on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.  We had 6  family attendees, 1 Select Board Member and 2 School Committee members. Here is the schedule for the upcoming sessions:

October 15, 2025 from 6:00pm-7:00pm at the GHS Auditorium

October 23, 2025 from 11:00am-12:00pm at the Perley School, 3rd Floor

  • Next Steps: Towards the end of October we will host a community session to share the data from the listening sessions. We will also talk about the process of how we are moving forward to rebuild the high school, the regulations regarding regionalization and how to enter into a tuition agreement – Georgetown pays another school district to educate certain grade levels of our students and to share potential partners for some of the options.
