            Shout Outs

(Click here if you would like to add one for the next blog post)

  • Martha Dodge, Visual Art Teacher at GMHS, has worked diligently and tirelessly to help create a graphic that will represent the High School Redesign.  Thank you, Martha.  Your skill set made this process easier than expected!
  • Mike Clancy, Operations Coordinator, jumped right in to manage the district’s transportation needs.  I appreciate his willingness to hop in the driver’s seat and drive our students when needed.  Thank you Mike, for everything you do.

UPDATES:

Meet Jenny Winter (video), the Director of Innovative Learning and Student Support for the Georgetown School District.  She is already making an impact with building internships, expanding Early College and working with the Guidance Department to reimagine our Middle and High School experience.

The Search for the new Middle High School Principal has launched.  Here is the link to the webpage.  I will be reaching out to staff members, students and parent organizations to recruit people to serve on the screening/interview committee to forward recommended candidates to me for the final decision.

We had a wonderful Halloween Parade at Penn Brook last week.  I want to echo Principal Benoit’s acknowledgement of all the students and staff.  It was evident that our teachers taught the behavioral expectations to the students who did a stellar job listening – the parade went off without a hitch!  It was great to see the parents, police and community come together for a moment of fun and excitement!

I am grateful that so many community members have come out to share their voices at the listening sessions and/or complete the survey.  I have been working with Stacy McMaster and a community member to sift through the data and prepare the discussion for November 13, 2025.

The more we analyze people’s perspectives, not surprising, we see there are differing opinions. I want to acknowledge that this process creates uncertainty around Georgetown Public Schools.  I believe as we continue to gather information and the community learns more about the process for Plan B or Plan C, there will be clarity.

There has been community concern that there has not been enough focus on Plan A, the High School Redesign and creating Georgetown High School into an Education Destination on the North Shore. I have received direct feedback that some community members believe talking about future options implies that either regionalizing or tuitioning is a foregone conclusion. I want to say that this is not the case.  Evidence to this includes:

  • Investing in a fulltime Athletic Director/Trainer to strengthen our current sports program and grown additional athletic opportunities for our students
  • Reimaging the guidance department at the high school and developing career/college Innovative Pathways including expanded Early College and Deep Internships under the leadership of the Director of Innovative Learning and Student Support, Jenny Winter
  • Purchasing vans to support our special education transportation AND our Early College and Internship opportunities for our students
  • Taking the opportunity with Jeff Carovillano’s departure to hire a search firm to conduct a strong search process to find candidates that will understand the complexities of GMHS and embrace the vision we are striving for
  • Continuing to adopt and implement curriculum resources to support our teachers and positively impact our student’s learning.  This year we adopted CommonLit 360 for ELA in grades 9-12.

It is important to know that I will continue to share information with the community and be available to the School Committee and Municipal Board Members as needed.
